How much financial support should be given to people living with long-term health conditions?
That's the question being asked by the Department of Infrastructure which has launched a consultation looking at assistance to help people live independently.
The department wants people's views on giving assistance of ?30,000 – or up to ?50,000 – in cases of exceptional need following clinical recommendation.
The means-tested grants or loans could be used to buy equipment or make adaptations to a home.
They will consolidate the arrangements currently in place between the Department of Health and Social Care and Department of Infrastructure.
Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer says: "The department recognises the importance of a good quality of life and appreciates that those with long-term health conditions wish to stay independent in their own homes for as long as possible.
"I understand the benefit of adapting our residents' homes to meet their needs, and feel strongly that everyone should be enabled to enjoy a good standard of life."
The consultation invites comments on the Department of Infrastructure's proposed House Improvement (Adaptions) Scheme 2018 before the scheme is finalised and taken forward for approval by Tynwald.
