Bomb disposal experts travelled to the Isle of Man yesterday to carry out a controlled explosion on an unexploded device.
The object – which is believed to be from the Second World War – was found by a member of the public who was metal detecting on Sunday.
Police and the Coastguard cordoned off the area near the coast at Smeale with coastguard members covering the cordon until yesterday morning.
A Navy Bomb Disposal Team then made the area safe.
Members of the public are being urged to call 999 if they come across any suspicious objects.
